    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Optic capture of a 3-piece intraocular lens (IOL). a. A 3-piece IOL is placed in the sulcus. A pars plana–assisted anterior vitrectomy is being performed to remove vitreous and portions of the posterior capsule; the anterior capsule is left intact. b. The optic of the IOL is carefully placed posterior to the fibrotic rhexis; the haptics are left in the sulcus space and “capture” the IOL in position. c. The optic is now fully captured behind the anterior capsular rhexis. Notice the mild peaking of the rhexis at the optic–haptic junction of the IOL; this indicates proper capture of the IOL.
