In this interview from AAO 2020 Virtual, Dr. Eric Donnenfeld discusses 1-year refractive outcomes for a modular, curvature-changing IOL (LensGen). The lens consists of a base portion that is supported by capsule-filling circumferential haptics, and a fluid lens that fits into the base portion and enables continuous range of vision. Outcomes from 45 eyes showed the novel shape-changing IOL provided a full range of vision from distance to near. Bilateral implantation led to improved vision at all distances, suggesting binocular summation.
