In this video from AGS 2017, Dr. Won Kim discusses the benefits of combining multiple minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedures during 1 operation, particularly if a patient is undergoing cataract surgery. In his practice, Dr. Kim noted advantages and limitations inherent in each commercially available MIGS procedure, and thus has found that combining them gives his patients the best possible outcomes while still minimizing risks compared with traditional filtration surgery. Selecting more than 1 intervention from the outset not only saves patients from subsequent surgeries should they not respond to a single procedure, but in some cases, multiple procedures may create a synergistic effect that lowers IOP more effectively than a single procedure can.
