CyPass Withdrawal from a Cornea Surgeon's Perspective

    Cornea/External Disease, Glaucoma

In this interview from AAO 2018, Drs. Bennie Jeng and Davinder Grover discuss the practical implications of the CyPass microstent withdrawal. The device length and number of rings exposed has been significantly correlated with endothelial cell loss over 5 years. However, Dr. Jeng notes that the device position is even more important. Chronic touch between the device and the endothelium due to blinking can cause the migration of central endothelial cells to the periphery, depleting central endothelial cells and leading to bullous keratopathy. Patients with an existing CyPass stents who are at high risk of endothelial cell loss should be monitored carefully, Dr. Jeng says.
