In this interview from AAO 2019, Dr. Amar Agarwal discusses recent advances in the handshake technique. Initially developed to simplify haptic externalization with the glued IOLs, he has modified the technique to aid surgeons performing intrascleral haptic fixation using the double-needle flanged haptic technique developed by Dr. Shin Yamane. Dr. Agarwal further describes how he combines the handshake technique with Yamane's needle method and Mami Kusaka's riveting technique to create a riveted flange for fixating IOLs—referred to as the handshake riveting flange technique of Yamane.
