In this interview from Glaucoma 360, Dr. Janey Wiggs offers gems from her keynote lecture on how genetics influence the management of primary open-angle glaucoma. Patients are often treated without regard for their genetic predisposition to disease, even though several glaucoma-associated genes have been identified. Dr. Wiggs encourages physicians to consider family history and time of onset when determining whether to send a patient for genetic testing. Furthermore, genetic testing on clinical trial participants could help identify groups of patients who are most likely to benefit from an intervention.
