In Favor of Femtosecond Cataract Surgery

    By John Hovanesian, MD
    Annual Meeting 2013
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Dr. John Hovanesian reviews data on femtosecond cataract surgery presented at both Refractive Subspecialty Day 2013 and the September 2013 issue of the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery. He says the data show that laser cataract surgery takes no more time than traditional phacoemulsification, uses less phaco time, results in less endothelial cell loss and doesn’t increase inflammation. Additionally, it allows you to design the capsule to accommodate new types of lenses, such as Dr. Marie-José Tassignon’s "bag-in-the-lens" technique.
