Formulae to correct applanation tonometry measurement error for central corneal thickness are useless in some patient populations. In this interview from AAO 2016, Dr. Cynthia Roberts discusses her studies showing the inability of applanation tonometry to measure IOP in younger patients, those with keratoconus and in post-refractive surgery patients. For the most accurate IOP measurements in these patients, Dr. Roberts recommends the Pascal Dynamic Contour Tonometer, Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA) or the Oculus Corvis ST Tonometer.
