    Intra-arterial Chemotherapy for Retinoblastoma

    ARVO 2016
Childhood Malignancies, Pediatric Ophth/Strabismus, Vitreoretinal Diseases

In this video from ARVO 2016, Dr. Anthony B. Daniels discusses his work on intra-arterial chemotherapy for group D retinoblastoma. The method uses an endovascular surgical approach to deliver chemotherapy directly to the ophthalmic artery, increasing the drug concentration reaching the tumor and reducing systemic toxicity compared with traditional intravenous treatment. Dr. Daniels and colleagues showed that when used as primary therapy, 85% of eyes were salvaged without additional external beam radiation treatment, while those who failed primary treatment had a 75% globe salvage rate.
