    Manual vs. Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Keratoplasty

By Anne Coleman MD, PhD; Anthony Aldave, MD

    Cornea/External Disease

In this interview Dr. Anne Coleman talks to Dr. Anthony Aldave about his four-year experience using the femtosecond laser for corneal transplantation.  He recently performed a retrospective review comparing outcomes between manual and femtosecond-assisted surgery in keratoconus patients. While the laser group had less astigmatism at six months, there was no difference in vision at one year. Dr. Aldave believes the femtosecond laser offers advantages in deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and in select cases of full-thickness corneal transplantation.
