    Masquerade Syndromes

    AAO 2022
    02:59
    Retina/Vitreous, Uveitis

In this interview from AAO 2022, Dr. Sruthi Arepalli discusses her talk on masquerade syndromes, where for instance a patient can have the appearance of a medical retina or uveitic condition not responding to treatment that may be a cancer or infection. She describes several cases, including one on acute exudative polymorphous vitelliform maculopathy, which can look like other things but which revealed a melanoma after three rounds of PET scans. Treating the whole patient, including knowing all the systemic associations, and asking whether you are undertreating or treating the wrong thing will help in the management of masquerade syndromes.
