Cataract/Anterior Segment
In this video from AAO 2016, Dr. Dan Z. Reinstein provides highlights from his presentation on the newest capabilities in anterior chamber imaging. Dr. Reinstein uses a high-resolution, high frequency ultrasound system featuring A-scan motion control that allows the user to position the transducer in the visual axis or at specific angles without having to guess the location while looking at a screen, as with previous scanners. The technology allows for uninhibited imaging of all anterior segment structures and can create 3D composite images of the entire lens, including the area behind the iris that could previously only be approximated. Dr. Reinstein believes that the ability to measure individual variation in factors involved in the effective lens position such as lens circumference, lens volume and the zonular plane will facilitate more accurate IOL power calculations than ever before.
