In this interview from AAO 2017, Dr. Claudia Perez offers advice for surgeons performing cataract surgery in patients who have previously undergone penetrating keratoplasty. During the preoperative stage, she suggests discussing what patients should expect from their postoperative vision. During surgery, Dr. Perez suggests being careful with wound placement, avoiding astigmatic keratotomy and to be prepared to suture the incision. Dr. Perez uses an aggressive steroid regimen postoperatively. This is important as surgery can generate inflammation that may trigger graft rejection.
