Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Glaucoma
Dr. Mary Lynch is the recipient of the 2019 AGS Innovator Award, marking the first time a woman has won this award. In this interview from AGS 2019, she discusses her approach to balancing her career, family and community service. Dr. Lynch’s innovations in the field of glaucoma include the first paper describing 360-degree suture trabeculotomy and the development of the EyePass, a precursor to the iStent and the first MIGS device to be implanted in humans. Although curiosity and passion drew her to research, she explained that she paved a very deliberate career path so she could maintain her career and family. Finding supportive mentors and staying focused, she says, are key to a healthy work-life balance.
