In this interview from ASRS 2016, Dr. Paul Hahn covers the key points from his recently published review looking at the success of single-surgery, primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair from 2002-2012. He and his colleagues were surprised to find that despite advances in technology and technique, the surgical success rate was not statistically significant. Dr. Hahn hopes this finding will help spur surgical innovation, and predicts that evolving visualization technologies such as 3D viewing systems and intraoperative OCT will allow for higher success rates in the coming 10 years.
