Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Macular Disease, Retina/Vitreous
In this interview from AAO 2019, Dr. Emily Chew describes the role of genetics in AMD. In her Jackson Memorial Lecture, she noted that multiple genes have been implicated in the development of AMD, and genetic testing may help detect pathways of disease development and identify patients at risk of progression. However, while genetic testing currently is an important area of research arena, at this time, there are no prospective data support routine genetic testing in AMD.
