In this interview from AAO 2016, Dr. Minoru Tomita discusses the Kamra corneal inlay (AcuFocus) for the improvement of near vision in patients with presbyopia. Implanted intrasomally in the cornea of the nondominant eye, the device works like a camera, using a small aperture to expand depth of focus. The 3.8-mm inlay, made from polyvinylidene fluoride and carbon, is implanted under a corneal flap or pocket created by a femtosecond laser. Dr. Tomita has performed more than 6,000 procedures in Japan. He discusses the advantages of the inlay, his postoperative regimen and offers surgical tips.
