In this interview from ASRS 2019, Dr. Carl Baker discusses the findings from the DRCR Retina Network's Protocol V. In the trial, patients with diabetic macular edema, well-controlled diabetes and good vision were treated using 3 strategies: aflibercept, observation with deferred aflibercept and focal photocoagulation. There were no significant difference in vision between the 3 groups at 2 years. He concludes that observation may be a reasonable strategy in this subset of patients. The findings from Protocol V were published May 2019 issue of JAMA
