Treat-and-Extend for DME

In this video from ASRS 2016, Dr. John Payne discusses his randomized controlled trial assessing the outcomes of treat-and-extend for diabetic macular edema (DME). Subjects included 150 eyes with center-involved DME treated with either monthly dosed ranibizumab, treat-and-extend or treat-and-extend supplemented with angiography-guided focal laser. At the end of 1 year, all 3 groups showed similar improvements in vision and central retinal thickness. The trial continues for 2 more years, with all patients switched to PRN dosing in the final year.
