Tumor Prognostication in Primary Uveal Melanoma

By Patricia Chevez-Barrios, MD; Dan S. Gombos, MD, FACS
    Annual Meeting 2012
    Ocular Pathology/Oncology

Dr. Patricia Chevez-Barrios discusses a new trend in ocular oncology, prognostic biopsies. No longer are physicians performing tumor biopsies for diagnosis alone. Tissue biopsy can predict the risk of metastatic spread of a primary tumor using either gene expression profiling or chromosomal analysis. Dr. Chevez-Barrios describes the differences between these two tests, how the biopsies are performed, and what the physician and patient can expect to learn from them.
