In this interview from Glaucoma 360, Dr. Ruth Williams discusses the new pay-for-performance reimbursement formula that will replace the Medicare Part B Sustainable Growth Rate formula. The Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) consists of 4 performance categories used to derive a MIPS score - Meaningful Use, Value-Based Modifier (VBM) quality based upon Physician Quality Reporting System measures, VBM cost or resource use performance, and clinical practice improvement. The total score can significantly change a provider's Medicare reimbursement. She also discusses how her practice is preparing for this new system.
