Why It's Time to Convert to DMEK

Cornea/External Disease
In this interview, Dr. Gerrit Melles shares his top reasons corneal surgeons should make the switch to Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). Chief among these reasons are the proven safety profile, improved visual outcomes, and decreased rate of graft rejection compared to other keratoplasty procedures. Contrary to popular opinion, Dr. Melles believes DMEK poses no steep learning curve for most ophthalmic surgeons. He encourages surgeons to work with an eye bank that can aid in the transition and ensure predictable donor tissue preparation.
