  • Review Submissions to the Academy's Four Journals

Description: At the invitation of the Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Retina, Ophthalmology Glaucoma and Ophthalmology Science editorial boards, reviewers registered in the journals’ database provide thorough and constructive critiques to guide authors on how they can improve their manuscripts. The journals look to volunteer reviewers who offer thoughtful reviews with the goal of helping improve papers, which in turn provide better information to readers, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.

Time commitment: Based on the volunteer reviewer's availability. Most reviews take 1-2 hours. Reviews for systematic/meta analyses submissions take approximately 3 hours.

Instructions: The journals provide a comprehensive Guide to Reviewers (PDF), which guides 1) how to register as a reviewer in the journals’ online submission system, 2) how to download papers for review, and 3) how to submit comments. The guide also provides instructions on how to apply for CME credit. Once reviewers register, they will appear in the reviewer database of all three journals (based on their area of expertise).

Deadlines: At the time of accepting a reviewer invitation, reviewers have 14 days to complete their reviews.
