  • Top 3 ASC Resources at AAO 2017

AAO 2017 in New Orleans has several events and resources for physicians and administrators who run or are considering an ophthalmic ambulatory surgery center. Two events will address ASCs’ unique opportunities and challenges. AAO 2017 also provides a chance to talk to experts one on one.

    1. Up Your ASC Game
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society presents a five-hour event on ophthalmic entrepreneurship called envest: Breaking Through to 2020. The event, which runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a keynote address by Elizabeth Nelson, a researcher in biomedical engineering and author of The Healthy Office Revolution. After a community lunch, attendees can participate in one of several “envision the future” workshops based on special interest. The event is free, but you must RSVP to attend.
    2. Research Ancillary Business Options
A second event on Nov. 13 provides more information for those considering a separate ASC. Course 406, Handling Ancillary Businesses: ASC, Optical, Real Estate, Equipment, and Management Services looks at the pros and cons of setting up an ASC or optical shop as a separate entity. The course also looks at options for handling real estate, such as a medical office building. Taught by senior instructor Mark E Kropiewnicki, JD, LLM, the course runs 9-10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13. It’s included in the Academy Plus course pass.
