    Ravi D. Goel, MD, 2019 Program Director

    Regional Eye Associates
    Dr. Ravi Goel is comprehensive ophthalmologist with Regional Eye Associates in Cherry Hill, NJ. He is also an instructor on the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service (CPEC) at the Wills Eye Hospital. A past member of the Academy's Young Ophthalmology Committee, EyeNet editorial advisory board and AAOE Board of Directors, he is also past president of the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology. A graduate of the Academy's Leadership Development Program, he is also a member of the Academy's American Medical Association delegation and AMA Ophthalmology Section Council. Dr. Goel is a past chair of the AMA's Young Physician Section and recipient of top doc awards from South Jersey Magazine and SJ Magazine. He is a member of the Yale University Development Council.

    Mark D. Abruzzo counsels ophthalmology practices in all areas of business, corporate and partnership law. He has expertise in areas involving formations, mergers, consolidations and acquisitions and sales of ophthalmology practices, structuring partnership arrangements for practice owners and structuring other affiliations between ophthalmology practices. He also has a tax background, having been employed as a tax consultant for a worldwide accounting firm early in his career.

    A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, he also holds a Master of Law in Taxation from Villanova University School of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s University.

    Kristin Carter, MD

    Clarity Eye Care & Surgery
    Dr. Kristin Carter has been in private practice for nearly 20 years and founded Clarity Eye Care & Surgery, specializing in cataract surgery, as well as comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Carter serves on the Academy's Health Policy Committee and represents ophthalmology for Arizona on the Carrier Advisory Committee. Dr. Carter is a former president and a current board member of the Arizona Ophthalmological Society. She has been involved in ophthalmic education, serving on several publications’ editorial boards, developing content for the Ophthalmic News and Education (ONE®) Network and teaching courses on cataract surgery, coding and new technology in the eye operating room.

    Ho Sun Choi, MD

    Santa Clara Ophthalmology
    Dr. Ho Sun Choi practices general ophthalmology in San Jose, Calif. He started his own solo practice after finishing residency in 2010. He has been dedicated to advocating solo practice medicine through his blog and Solo Eye Physicians Google Group. He is also a founding partner of Independent Practice Partners LLC, a member of the AAOE Board of Directors and a committee member of OMIC.

    Dr. Linda D. Harrison is the Director of Risk Management at OMIC (the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Co.) in San Francisco. She has 24 years of experience in medical professional liability insurance. Prior to joining OMIC, Dr. Harrison was a claims manager at a national multispecialty carrier. She also leads efforts to improve organizational effectiveness through process analysis and redesign, team building and coaching. Dr Harrison lectures across the country on ophthalmic and health care risk management, litigation stress syndrome and physician burnout.

    Dr. Harrison received her bachelor’s in English Literature from Smith College, her master’s in Psychology and Human Development from Harvard and her PhD in Organizational Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.

    Ann M. Hulett, CMPE

    EyeHealth Northwest
    Ann M. Hulett is the CEO of EyeHealth Northwest in Portland, Ore., comprised of 30 ophthalmologists, 11 ODs, two ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and more than 350 employees. She has 25 years of experience as a medical practice administrator, 14 in ophthalmology. She worked as the administrator at Rocky Mountain Eye Center in Pueblo, Colo., during which she served five years on the AAOE Board of Directors and received the Academy's Secretariat Award. She has also worked as CFO and CEO of a large cardiology practice in New Mexico. She started her career as a CPA and enjoys working in areas of finance as well as group governance and physician communications.

    Anthony P. Johnson, MD, FACS

    Jervey Eye Group
    Dr. Anthony Johnson, is the immediate past president and immediate past managing partner of Jervey Eye Group in Greenville, S.C., roles he has served in for more than two decades. A member of the AAOE Board of Directors, Dr. Johnson has been a full-time pediatric ophthalmologist for 33 years. Jervey Eye Group PA has four locations, a full digital optical surfacing lab and a three-OR ambulatory surgery center. Seventeen doctors cover comprehensive eye care and most subspecialties. Dr. Johnson served as Jervey Eye Group’s interim administrator until June 2018. He is still supervises ASC billing, including anesthesia services.

    Dr. Robert Melendez is a partner at Eye Associates of New Mexico, a private practice of more than 50 ophthalmologists and optometrists, and a clinical assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. He has been in practice for nearly 14 years and is passionate about educating and mentoring medical students and young ophthalmologists. He serves as the Academy's Secretary for Online Education overseeing the ONE Network and EyeWiki®. He was also former chair of the Young Ophthalmologist (YO) Committee and served on the AAOE Board of Directors for four years. He has a strong interest in marketing, social media, leadership, strategic planning and clinical efficiencies.

    Derek Preece is a principal and executive consultant with BSM Consulting and is based in Orem, Utah. He is a former ophthalmology practice and ASC administrator and has been consulting with ophthalmology practices for more than 30 years in financial management and benchmarking, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and employee management. He is a frequent lecturer at Academy and AAOE meetings and has authored many articles on practice management topics.

    Aneesh Suneja is the president and founder of FlowOne Lean Consulting LLC, based just outside Milwaukee, Wis. He is a chemical engineer and holds an MBA from Marquette University. He has been a lean practitioner for more than 20 years and has coauthored two books on the subject. He and his team have developed training, front-line culture change techniques, patient wait time management software and lean architecture principles specifically for ophthalmology practices. He has contributed to articles, webinars and presentations on behalf of the Academy. He started his career with PPG Industries and earned Six Sigma Black Belt and lean certifications in 1998.

    Maureen Waddle is a principal and senior consultant with BSM Consulting. With 30 years of experience in the eye care industry, Maureen Waddle works with ophthalmic practices and ambulatory surgery centers. Her expertise includes strategic planning, new business-line analysis and development, leadership recruiting and development, team building, customer service, staff training, referral network development, managing the business of elective surgery, financial assessment and benchmarking, physician negotiations and operational efficiency. She is a licensed practitioner for Insights® Discovery, a tool used to enhance business productivity through self-awareness and improved communication.

    Robert E. Wiggins, Jr. MD, MHA

    Asheville Eye Associates
    Dr. Robert Wiggins serves on the Academy Board of Trustees as the Senior Secretary for Ophthalmic Practice and is a member of the executive committee. He serves on the AAOE Board of Directors and AAOE Program Committee. He is a past member of the AAOE EHR Committee and Academy POACE Committee and has served on several Academy task forces. He has received the Academy's Achievement and Secretariat Awards for Education and Practice Management.

    Since 1991, Dr. Wiggins has worked at Asheville Eye Associates in North Carolina, where he practices pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology. He has served as the managing partner since 2000.
