Advanced Glaucoma Testing
Question: When patients have advanced glaucoma, what testing can be performed? We’ve been told in the past testing would be denied.
Answer: The No. 1 rule is to know your payer and its guidelines. Each may vary. It’s best to review your LCD policies for Medicare Part B. For example, Palmetto GBA SCODI (OCT) policy L34431 states that “it is expected that no more than two (2) SCODI tests per year would be indicated in monitoring patients with progressive optic neuropathies, including glaucoma (mild, moderate, severe, and indeterminate) without a significant change in clinical status.”
