  • Billing Irrigation for Chemical Injury

Question: Our physician irrigated a patient’s eyes using the Morgan lens device after a chemical injury. Is this separately billable?

Answer: Prior to Jan 2021, irrigation by any method is included in the exam payment and not separately billable.

After Jan 1, 2021, if the physician is performing the irrigation, it can be counted as physician time – when billing based on time rather than medical decision making.
