Question: Can we still submit 92225/92226 Extended ophthalmoscopy?

Answer: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 these codes have been deleted. They’ve been replaced with:

92201 Ophthalmoscopy, extended; with retinal drawing and scleral depression of peripheral retinal disease (e.g., for retinal tear, retinal detachment, retinal tumor) with interpretation and report, unilateral or bilateral, and

92202 with drawing of optic nerve or macula (e.g., for glaucoma, macular pathology, tumor) with interpretation and report, unilateral or bilateral.

Both codes are bilateral, meaning whether one or both eyes are tested, submit the code without an eye modifier or modifier -52. Do not bill 92202 with either 92201 or 92250 Fundus photos per CCI mutually exclusive edits The new EO codes are also bundled with all retina minor and major surgeries.
