Billing for ORA
Updated June 2018
Question: Our surgeons use optiwave refractive analysis to correct astigmatism during cataract surgery with premium IOL insertion. Do both the surgeon and the facility charge for the service, and what is the correct CPT code?
Answer: There is no CPT code for use of the ORA system. You may use an unlisted CPT code or create a code of your own for internal tracking only, insurance doesn't cover this procedure. The surgeon's fee includes the cost. There is no additional facility fee beyond the difference between the standard IOL and the price of the premium IOL.
