Billing Telemedicine Emergency Exam and Follow-up
Question: Are we able to submit a telemedicine exam for a medical emergency on the weekend and then have the patient come into the office the following Tuesday and submit an office exam?
Answer: It depends on the payer’s guidelines and the CPT codes submitted for telemedicine.
If reporting phone call codes 99441-99443, these can't be billed when leading to an exam within seven days or the next available appointment. If billing CPT codes 99212-99215 for a telemedicine exam, another exam can be submitted when seen in-office.
