  • Charging Patients PPE Cleaning Fees

Question: We have heard that some dental practices are charging a personal protective equipment (PPE) cleaning fee. Are ophthalmologists allowed to charge a separate fee to patients?

Answer: If you've received government funds, those fees are included and not separately billable to the patient. I would also confirm in your payer contract what separate fees may or may not be allowed because many would consider this part of doing business.
