Collect self-pay fee for Intralase laser used during Intralase Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK)
Can we collect a self-pay fee from the patient for the Intralase laser used during Intralase Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK)procedure? The Intralase laser incision will be performed in our procedure room first and then the patient is brought to the operating room for the keratoplasty procedure. The keratoplasty will be billed to insurance, but it does not cover the cost of the Laser.
From the AAO Health Policy committee: The incision is part of the transplant procedure. It is not separately billable to the carrier or the patient. If an insurance payer was previously paying for 0209T (deleted 1/1/22), report with the unlisted code 66999.
