CPT code for Meibomian Gland Expression
Question: Is there a code for meibomian gland expression?
Answer: Manual expression is not separately billable from the exam. For other methods, there are three Category III codes that may be applicable. Confirm coverage/allowable with the specific payer. The patient may be responsible for payment.
0207T Evacuation of meibomian glands, automated, using heat and intermittent pressure, unilateral
0507T Near-infrared dual imaging (i.e., simultaneous reflective and trans-illuminated light) of meibomian glands, unilateral or bilateral, with interpretation and report
0563T Evacuation of meibomian glands, using heat delivered through wearable, open-eye eyelid treatment devices and manual expression, bilateral
