Question: We see emergency visits in our clinic. How are they coded compared to telemedicine coding for the 99201-99215 family?
Answer: If the virtual visit is face-to-face, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires modifier -95 be appended to 99201-99215. If the visit is face-to-face in your office, there’s no need to append modifier -95. Whether telemedicine or in person in the practice, the place of service is 11 office.
