When can we bill for an exam when an intravitreal injection is performed on the same day?
Answer:
If the exam is a significant, separately identifiable service, then you should append modifier -25 to the appropriate E/M or Eye visit code. Ask yourself: Although medically necessary, was the exam performed solely to confirm the need for the injection? If so, the exam is not separately billable.
