Global Period of Surgery Performed Out of State
Question: I am performing retinal detachment (RD) surgery on a patient who was treated for RD in the same eye two months ago in another state. Since they are in the global period would I use modifier -58?
Answer: No modifier is needed as the procedure is performed by a different physician and separate practice. Modifiers -58, -78 and -79 are utilized for the same physician or practice.
