How to Bill Incomplete YAG Capsulotomy
Question: Our physician performed a YAG capsulotomy, CPT code 66821. However, he determined it was an incomplete procedure and needs to bring the patient back. The operative report indicated that, due to makeup on the eyelashes, the view was unclear and an attempt to repeat was not possible. Can we submit this with modifier -53?
Answer: As this procedure states one or more sessions and the patient is required to come back for the procedure, bill the YAG at the following visit.
