In-office Testing Prior to Virtual Exam
Question: Can an established patient come to the office for testing by our ophthalmic technician and then have a telehealth virtual face-to-face visit with the physician within seven days?
Answer: Yes, the physician can bill for a virtual exam, CPT codes 99212-99215 after tests have been performed by staff. The e-visit codes 99421-99423 are not appropriate for providing test results only. Be sure there is a physician order on file before the test is performed detailing which test, which eye(s) and the medical indication.
