Is a Schirmer’s test is billable?
Question: Can you tell me if a Schirmer’s test is billable?
Answer: There is no CPT code for this test for dry eyes. Just like keratometric (K) readings and Amsler grid, a Schirmer’s test is not billable to the patient or the payer. Those who have been coding Schirmer’s tests as tear osmolarity tests have been doing so inappropriately and have been overpaid.
