  • Modifiers on Drug Codes

Question: We hired a new billing manager who insists that eye modifiers should be included on the drug codes for intravitreal injections. We’ve never received rejections before. Is this correct billing?

Answer: It is not a common practice to use the eye modifiers on drugs. For example, the Noridian policy for Avastin states that the eye modifier needs to be on the injection code only. Double the units on the drug code if billing bilaterally.
