New global period for CPT codes 67141 and 67145
Please confirm if there is a new global period for CPT codes 67141 and 67145.
Yes. Due to a substantial increase in utilization especially for 67145, the codes were revised to be consistent with other retinal laser photocoagulation codes. Beginning Jan. 1, 2022 67141 and 67145 have a 10-day global period for Medicare Part B and payers that follow CMS. This means that an exam performed on the day of the procedure must meet definition of modifier -25 instead of modifier -57.
