New Orthoptic Training Codes
We employ an orthoptist. Can we use the 2023 revised orthoptic training CPT code 92065, Orthoptic training, performed by a physician or other qualified health care professional when the orthoptist sees the patient?
Answer:
Orthoptists are not licensed health care professionals. You would bill CPT code 92066, Orthoptic training; under supervision of a physician or other qualified health care professional.
The physician prescribes exercises to correct ocular problems (for example, ocular motor misalignment). The orthoptist or technician trains the patient to perform therapeutic exercises to correct the misalignment.
