Payment Reduction When Using Modifier -50
Question: I performed CPT code 67908 Mullerectomy bilaterally during the same operative session. I appended modifier -50. However, the payment was less than I expected. Is there another modifier I should use?
Answer: When multiple surgical procedures are performed during the same operative session, the multiple surgical procedure reduction guidelines correctly reduce the second and subsequent procedure allowables to 50 percent of the allowable. The procedure with the highest allowable is paid at 100 percent of the allowable.
