  • Possible Foreign Body Removal During Blepharoplasty Surgery

We had one of our surgeons perform an exploration of the medial upper lid for possible foreign body during a blepharoplasty procedure. There was no foreign body but excessive scar tissue. She debulked and biopsied the scar tissue and sent it to pathology.

    Answer:

There is no defined CPT for scar tissue exploration of the eyelid. As this was performed during blepharoplasty no additional code would be billed.
    Submit either:
    15822 — Blepharoplasty, upper eyelid
    or
15823 — Blepharoplasty, upper eyelid; with excessive skin weighting down lid.
You can submit the biopsy with CPT code 67810 — Incisional biopsy of eyelid skin including lid margin but should wait and attach the diagnosis from the pathology results.
