SNF Flexibility During COVID-19 Emergency
Two areas (PDF) have been waived by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) when a patient is utilizing Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) benefits.
- The 3-day hospitalization prior to admission to a SNF is not required for patients who are impacted by this emergency.
- If SNF benefits have been exhausted, but the patient needs continued therapy, benefits will be renewed without have to restart a new benefit period.
Remember Medicare does not reimburse for drugs, technical component of tests, or post-cataract glasses. If services are necessary during the public health emergency, confirm reimbursement with the SNF.
