Supervision Requirements for Retinal OCT
Question: My Medicare fee schedule states that supervision rules do not apply to retinal OCT. I thought this test fell under general supervision?
Answer: The technical component, which ancillary staff often perform, has the indicator of 1 meaning general supervision. You may have needed to insert modifier -TC when looking at the fee schedule. Remember that commercial payers may not follow Medicare supervision rules.
