Part B injectable drug payments are impacted by a 4 percent Merit-Based Incentive Payment System penalty in 2019. It is imperative that all physicians who are not automatically exempt take steps to avoid the MIPS penalty before Jan. 15, 2018. Failure to do so will result in a lower drug payment than your cost.

There are four ways to avoid the penalty:

1. Manually enter at least one quality measure into the Academy’s IRIS® Registry before Jan. 15, 2018.
2. Use the IRIS Registry to attest to at least one improvement activity before Jan. 15, 2018.
3. Use the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services web portal to attest to at least one improvement activity before the end of the year.
4. Submit at least one quality measure via claims before the end of the year and receive confirmation from your remittance advice that the measures were received.
