TPE and RAC Audits Put on Pause
Question: During the current public health emergency, what is the status of the audits by the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)?
Answer: For the duration of the current public health emergency, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have stopped audits (PDF), including recovery audit (RAC) reviews. Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) are beginning to announce a pause on medical reviews including Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE).
CMS does state, however, reviews will take place where there is potential fraud.
