YAG Billing for SubILM Micro-aneurysm
Question: Our retinal surgeon performed a YAG laser for sub-internal limiting membrane microaneurysm and retinal hemorrhage. Is there a CPT code for this newer procedure?
Answer: According to the Academy’s Health Policy committee, submit CPT code 67299 Unlisted posterior segment. If Medicare Part B is the payer, the patient should sign and ABN and submit 67299 -GA. Indicate in box 19 of the CMS 1500 form what was performed. The payer may also request the operative report.
