Does cycloplegia lead to reduced vision during a pseudomyopia test?

Question:
When a child has eye drops to test for pseudomyopia, the pupil dilates, so this lead to reduced vision (even if ciliary muscle is relaxed)?
Answer:
The mechanism of cycloplegia (relaxing the ciliary muscle, which helps the eye change focus) and dilating the pupil both aid detection of the true refractive error. Pseudomyopia occurs when a patient focuses their lens during the refraction making them appear to have myopia (nearsightedness). With the drops a patient with no refractive error cannot see at near, but can at distance; the nearsighted patient can still see up close but not at distance unless a corrective lens is provided.
